Canada Arrival

Canada’s Immigration Ex-Minister, Ahmed Hussen discussed the recent immigration policy changes in the country. These changes will be implemented on July 1st and consist of a steep increase in initial application fees, a shortened timeframe to process some routine immigration applications, reviews of policies to permit interstate mobility between provincial skilled trades licensing systems and so forth.

“On this anniversary of our country’s enactment of the world’s first national immigration act, Canada is upholding one simple but powerful principle: that Canada shall be formed as a multicultural nation where immigrants can live their lives in freedom and where Canadians could engage with each other freely.”- This quote by today’s minister indicates that it is one way for Canada protects its identity through passage of new legislation.

Canada has a population of more than 36 million. It is home to approximately 39% of Canada’s population. Nearly 62% of Canada’s population lives in urban areas, meaning at least 46% live in the two largest metropolitan regions, which are the Greater Toronto Area and Greater Montreal Area. About 24% live in Western Canada, called Alberta and British Columbia. Roughly 8% live on Vancouver Island and near the Gulf of St. Lawrence. At least 7% live north or east of Ontario or Quebec; as for other offshore territories, about 33,000 people reside in Nunavut.

Arriving by plane at Kahouri is quite special. It’s been an awesome experience to make friends with children who have an immigrant family background because they’ve gone through the same things and understand you well too. That’s one of the best parts of celebrating a full year as Canadians!

Canada has welcomed me with wide open arms. I am proud of my Canadian brothers and sisters for welcoming Syrian refugees because it must take much courage for them to do that too- especially in this loud world today with its divisive thinking way too often on display. We can all work hard together, closer than ever before, so there’s always enough room for everyone in Canada.”
