Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is a pre-authorization for visa-exempt foreign nationals, who plan to travel to Canada.

The Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) program was introduced in 2016 and has been mandatory for visa-exempt foreign nationals since March 15, 2017. The ETA is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

The ETA is valid only if the applicant has a valid passport and it doesn’t expire within six months of the date on which they plan to travel to Canada. It also doesn’t cover those who need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
